Healthy Layla + An Amazing Bathtub!

Comments
Just got back from the German Vet in town, & I have good news: the infection in Layla's tail is gone!  Hip hip hooray!!  The Vet who saw her today was new & he told me he wanted to lift Layla onto the table so he could see her tail easier.  Are you kidding me?!  She's 120 pounds!  I said I didn't think it was a good idea.  She was already nervous.  "All three of us can lift her," he said.  Noooo, I don't think we should!  How crazy!  She'd freak out!  But when they rebandaged her tail, she laid on the floor & held nice & still.  What a good girl!  We go back on Tuesday.  The trick now is to keep her nice & calm so that her tail doesn't hit anything & bleed again.  Time to heal :)

Here are some pretty pictures for you today!  Happy Friday!!  Any big plans for the weekend?!  ♥

Isn't this bathtub amazing?!  Read more about it here.

Does Your Dog Watch TV?!

Comments
Layla, my sweet Dane girl, couldn't take her eyes off the TV tonight while I watched The National Dog Show!  It was so cute!  And when the commercials came on, she'd look over to me or to Lucius...  But her attention immediately went back to the dogs when the show returned!  At one point, she even walked up to the TV to get a closer look!

From the big dogs...

To the little dogs...

She was hooked!

Have you ever caught your dog watching TV?  I wonder if they really know what they're paying attention to!  Either way, it sure was cute watching Layla watch TV!  Don said I should record the Dog Show next time & play it for her once in a while ;)

Happy Friday, Everyone!!  Have a lovely weekend!  ♥

Pretty Sleepy Sunday + Saturday Around The World!

Comments
At 3:30 PM, it is still only 50 degrees here in beautiful Bavaria. The sun has finally shown his face, but he hasn't added any warmth to our day! Still, I bundled up {out comes one winter coat!} & took Layla & Lucius on a thirty minute walk through the paths & fields behind our house. Beautiful, isn't it?! Now, they are fast asleep & I'm warm inside. I do think I'll go find my slippers, though! ♥

Don't forget to enter your blog in my new Saturday Around The World listing for a chance to be featured here on {Amanda & Don}!  You can enter until Tuesday @ midnight EST.  I'm having so much fun reading the comments so far & seeing photos for those who have participated!  You ladies are truly lovely & deserve these new followers that you are getting!  Yay!
And on another note, today I am the guest blogger over at the wonderful {Life of Meg} blog! Meg is a dear friend of mine from college, so it was especially fun when she asked me to write a post for her! And you'll never guess the topic I chose... Travel tips & experience!  That doesn't sound a bit like me, now does it?!  :)  Head on over to check out my post as well as her blog!  You will love everything she writes about, I'm sure!

2 Great Danes = Lots of FOOD!

Comments
When this girl goes shopping & finds that her dogs' food is $5 off each bag, oh it's a good day!  As you can imagine, we go through food preeeetty fast for these two.  An 18 pound bag might last a week.  That is, if Lushie isn't growing like a weed just then -- & that isn't usually the case!  But even though they cost more to feed than other dogs, their size also means that they sure do give a lot of love!  ♥

See how happy I am?!
See how many bags of food I got?!
See how full the Mini is?!
...see Lushie's pouty face?
It's a good thing I love them so much :)

Fun With My Danes +

Comments
Want to see a few new photos of me with my Danes? I was having fun playing with my Dad's nice Nikon last night {which my brother borrowed for his trip over here}, so I took some fun ones!  Plus, Don asked for some new photos of me & the dogs, so I'm going to send these his way also!

She is one sleepy girl!  And I have one goofy smile!
I can't believe I was able to get this shot!  Way to hold still, Lushie!
Well, hmm!  I like this camera better than my own!  And I like my two huge doggies too!  Shall we play some more?!
Lucius likes that idea!  So we shall play!
Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!  I'm staying busy with my brother for this last week that he is here, so unless I have time like this {he & the dogs are napping!}, I'm out & about exploring Germany with him instead of sitting in front of the laptop.  I have so much to share with you all that when I get the chance to write, you know it will be good!  ♥

Happy Birthday, Layla!

Comments
A big warm welcome to all my new readers! It's wonderful to have you here, dears!

I'm glad that you all liked my London review! It's a good thing, because there's a lot more to come! Stay tuned!

Today, Layla turned two years old!  Happy Birthday to my sweet girl!  She's my snuggle buddy & she sure knows how to keep me company!  I'm so glad that we adopted her a little over a year ago.  She's been a wonderful addition to our little family!  And oh, is she a Daddy's girl :)

To celebrate, I made Peanut Butter Doggie Cakes {one for Lucius too, of course!} & after singing Happy Birthday, my brother & I gave them each their cake on the back patio.  Oh, what a mess it would have been if they ate the cakes inside!  As soon as the cakes touched the ground, Layla & Lucius were off!  It was on!  They scarfed them up faster than you would believe!

Ooh, wow!  Those Peanut Butter Cakes didn't last long at all!  No more...
 Happy Birthday, sweet girl!  ♥

Great Dane Wednesdays // Beautiful Award

Comments
Welcome again to my new readers! Woohoo! You all are fantastic!

While waiting for a call from Don last night, I decided to head to Post to run some errands & go to the Gym. Good for me, right? Well, I turned my phone on silent while I worked out & you can guess what happened... Yep, he called about an hour later. I'm never silencing my phone again! Thankfully, we Skype chatted a bit today & he's doing great! Call attempt #2 tonight :)

Yep, I've thought up another one: Wednesdays will now showcase my two snuggle buddies {my third is temporarily away!}, together giving me 250 pounds of love & attention!  So, every Wednesday you can expect a picture or two of them, something interesting about Danes, etc.!  { Good idea, or no?  You tell me! }  If you haven't done so yet, you can check out my page about Layla & Lucius that explains how {& why!} we adopted them in the last year.  They really have brought a lot of happiness into our home, & what a wonderful feeling being able to take in a doggie who needs care.  Yes, they're huge.  Yes, they eat a lot.  Yes, they could be fitted with a saddle & scheduled to run at Churchill Downs!  {We call Layla our Pony & Lucius is now moving on to Horse status!  This boy is gonna be big!  We're talkin' around 185!}  But despite their size, they are little dogs at heart.    They love to sit on our laps.  They're scared of the vacuum cleaner.  They're usually most nervous around little dogs!  So here are some recent photos of my big babies!

Yes, that is drool on Lucius' head.  Those big mouths tend to hold in big drool, which tends to migrate :)
I think that they miss Don.  Lucius, especially, is very snuggly & needy of attention.  I put a bed beside the table I keep the laptop on & he stays right there close to me  ♥  Layla keeps watch for him at the back door.  This is the way he always comes into the house when he gets home from work...  I know they want him home too.  In fact, while writing this, they each {more than once!} climbed into my lap!!  Just with their front legs, mind you.  Phew!
See, they're just big cuddly dogs!

I'd like to thank JessRaquel for awarding me with the Beautiful Blogger Award!  Thank you so much, dear!  This is my first award & I really appreciate it!  I would like to pass this along to my good friend at Life of Meg because her blog, too, is beautiful!

 .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:. .:.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  I hope that your week is going oh so well & that the rest of it is even better than the start!

Sweet+ Sunday

Comments
It's hitting me. I'm here alone. Don won't be back with me for a long long time. Yuck. I was doing really well for a while, staying busy around the house, meeting with friends from time to time, taking the dogs on nice long walks through the fields behind our neighborhood... Then, there was something about going out last night {by myself} to meet some girls for the movie {which was pretty good!} & then returning home again {...by myself} that really stung. Out alone, in alone. And I'll even be going to Church today...alone.  Thank goodness I have Layla & Lucius to greet me when I come home, though! I can't imagine it being absolutely quiet around here!  I'm so glad that I have them!  And maybe if I combine their Great Dane snuggly-ness with some sweets, I'll start to feel a little better?  I can do this!

Big dog, right?  This is probably how big Lucius will be when he is full grown!  Aw, my 125 pound 1 year old!
I think I might need a little something sweet to cheer me.  Perhaps some fine Nutella?
Or a pretty cupcake.
Maybe even this lollipop, although I think it's too pretty to take a lick from!
Don & I weren't able to talk at all yesterday, but this morning as I was checking emails I realized that emails were being marked as "read" that I hadn't been to yet!  Hmm!  He must be on!  So I wrote an email saying, "Baby, are you on our email right now?!" & hooray, he was!  So we've been emailing back & forth like fools for the past, oh, hour-ish!  The network he was on wouldn't allow IMs of any kind or any social networking sites, so our email-chat was actually the best we had.  And oh, was it nice!  He's actually headed to another computer now to try to call!  *fingers crossed*

Now, wouldn't that be sweet!

Happy Sunday, everyone!  Put some sweetness into your day!

Layla, My Cupcake

Comments
I think that my sweet girl Layla needs to have a new cupcake {pupcake!} collar for this summer!  What do you think?!  {Lucius has a navy collar with orange crabs on it.  Screams summertime!}  Layla is still wearing the collar that she "came with" when we adopted her a year ago!
I found this sugary sweet little number at Etsy.Com.  Layla may be getting a present sometime soon :)

Thunder & Lightning

Comments
The weather men in Bavaria are probably getting tired of talking about all of this rain, but I am loving it! While people I know are dreaming of the sun & wishing for its speedy return, I'm snuggled up inside with my doggies, my tea, & a good book {which now happens to be The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova}.  Last night, however, I got even more of what I love: a fantastic thunder & lightning storm, complete with a torrential downpour!  Ooh, how I enjoyed it.  I was like a little kid while trying to fall asleep, a silly grin slapped across my face as the lightning lit up our room, even through our rouladens {metal German blinds}.  Don said to me, "Try not to giggle too much.  I'm sleeping!"  hehe

At one point, I started counting the seconds between the lightning flash & the thunder.  Four seconds.  We were close!  And I even counted a thunder rumble that lasted 30 seconds!

It was a very cozy night.  I'm hoping for more!  Do you like thunder storms?!  I must say that Layla & Lucius don't mind them, thank goodness!  Can you imagine having two terrified 120 pound dogs to take care of?  The only sign of fear was when they were out in the yard & the thunder scared Lucius enough that he ran between the bench & the house.  How he fit back there, I don't know!

A Very Sleepy Dane Girl

Comments
A quick post to share this picture I just took of Layla, fast asleep on the sofa after a nice family walk.

Could she be any cuter?!

Happy Saturday, my lovely readers!  Don & I are headed to a nearby town for not one, but two parties with friends!  Should be a fun night in Germany!

It's A Good Friday!

Comments
A chilly but cozy 43 degrees at 11:49 am with a sky that seems to be promising a downpour of rain at any moment.  The grass is green, the leaves are now out on all the trees, & tulips of every color can be seen across the neighborhood.  It's officially Springtime in Germany.

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope that your week is coming to a wonderful end, with all your projects & goals completed! Here, all is well. I just took the dogs on a 30 minute fast & brisk walk in the sprinkling rain. I kept looking up at the sky full of gray clouds, trying to figure out which way the storm was blowing. Whether it's coming our way or not, we made it back home without getting drenched!

Looking back on this week, I can see that a lot has taken place!
  • I picked up & planted most of my window boxes with pastel pink & fuchsia geraniums on Monday
  • Don & I went to the Squadron FRG Meeting on Tuesday
  • Blast!  I can't remember what I did Wednesday!  That means it must have been house work.  Yes, I think I did all the laundry that day, including duvets & dog beds!  That is an accomplishment!
  • I found a German Auto Shop that spoke English & could take our car, along with calling ADAC to schedule a tow on Thursday!  Hooray!  It all worked out!  And even more impressive, Don & I met the tow truck on Post, got the car, & took care of the paperwork at the Shop.  Phew!  We can now say that we've done all we can do...until we have to pay.  Let's not think about that...
  • Today, I helped a friend watch some kids {two very cute little boys} & we had a wonderful time watching Curious George, making monkey noises, & riding around the living room on a little elephant with wheels.  Note: I did the pushing, not the riding, although they got such a kick out of it that maybe I should have let them push me!
Don should be coming home from work early today, which is always a treat!  AND *drum roll please* I ordered a new laptop for myself so that Don & I each have one, & I think it arrived at the Post Office today!  I am thrilled, like a little kid with a new toy.  I can't wait to "play" with it :)

And for your daily dose of my doggies, here's a few recent pictures!  {I just found the very cool Picnik.Com & spent too long playing there!  What a neat site for photo editing!}

Wishing each one of you a fabulous Friday & a wonderful Weekend!

My Parents Are Here! ...Off We Go!

Comments
My parents are here! Oh, how happy my heart was to see them come through the Arrivals gate at the airport!  And isn't it wonderful that no matter how long you are away from your family, as soon as you are back together it feels as though no time has passed?!  It's so easy & comfortable right from the get-go.  Ah, family.  I missed you!

Layla & Lucius have two new best friends.  They played all night & snuggled lots too!  Layla usually barks at "strangers" so much that they probably don't even want to come into the house!  But she didn't do that with my parents!  It wasn't until they'd been here about 45 minutes that she barked {a teenie bit!} at my Dad.  Silly girl, she knew by that point that he was nice!  Then, of course, she put her head under his hand & gratefully accepted all the petting & sweet talking that followed.  Lucius was Dad's constant play buddy, bringing him his favorite heavy-duty ribbon {which used to be part of a braided toy that my Mother-In-Law sent!} & beginning a game of tug-of-war.  My Dad was so sweet; he re-braided the ribbon.  I think this just made Lucius like him even more!  My parents are fans.

Well, I won't be writing for the next few days because this morning we head on our wine trip!  It's going to be so relaxing & yummy!  The drive will be gorgeous!  And we're planning a few little trips around there, too:

Bastogne, Brussels.  The Battle of the Bulge took place here, & my Dad's father fought in it during WWII.  What an experience it will be to visit this incredible place.

Trier, Germany.  The oldest city in the country, founded on or before 16BC.  As you can see, there are many Roman ruins here.  We are definitely going to make a stop & check it out!

Worms, Germany.  Most famous for Martin Luther's stand against the Catholic Church in 1521.

So tell me...what are your plans for the weekend, dear readers?!  I'll be back to posting on Tuesday...unless, that is, we have another busy day planned!  Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
